Should I give isotonic drinks a try?

Daily exercise is vital for leading a healthy and happy lifestyle. It goes hand in hand with eating fresh fruit and vegetables and consuming certain drinks before and after doing sports.

To prevent dehydration after taking part in physical activities, it is always advisable to drink isotonic drinks, which are commonly known as sports drinks. That type of drinks contain electrolytes which help your body take in liquid effectively and carbohydrates that give your body extra energy. Potassium, sodium, iron, and magnesium are the most common ingredients in those isotonic drinks.

However, there are other additives, such as sugar or caffeine, which are harmful to your body in great quantities. Athletes should regularly use isotonic drinks to maintain the fluid balance in their bodies. According to a number of nutritionists, it is better to prepare them at home. Therefore, they offer three alternatives:

1.Chocolate milk

According to Natalie Rizzo, a certified nutritionist in New York, milk with a little chocolate is a great combination loaded with carbohydrates and vitamins that provide energy to your body and speed up muscle recovery. Chocolate milk contains calcium, iron, and magnesium, which strengthens the muscles and joints. The specialist points out that fresh milk, which is mixed with dark chocolate, should not be skimmed, because that way a lot of electrolytes are lost.

2.Orange juice

As long as it’s fresh, it’s full of vitamin D and calcium, says Jonathan Valdez, a spokesman for the New York Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. It might be true that there is no great variety of electrolytes like in sports drinks, but it does contain a lot of antioxidants like hesperidin, which prevents high blood pressure.

A mixture of a few thin ginger slices, some freshly squeezed lemon juice, and a large cup of boiled water. The result of the mixture is one of the greatest refreshing drinks. Ever! It contains a lot of vitamin C and is well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Nevertheless, eating some fresh fruit also has a huge impact on your body after a sweaty workout. Watermelons and blueberries are examples of fresh foods that will boost your energy and mood.
